Intuitive Surgical, Inc. has announced a change in its leadership, with President Dave Rosa being promoted to the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective July 1, 2025. This transition will see the current CEO, Gary Guthart, assuming the role of Executive Chair of Intuitive's board of directors, while the current board chair, Craig Barratt, will become the lead independent director.
Rosa, a 29-year veteran with Intuitive, has been instrumental in various aspects of the company's operations, including engineering, clinical and product development, marketing, regulatory and quality affairs, and the commercial organization. Notably, he founded Intuitive's first clinical engineering and endoluminal groups, leading to the development and commercialization of the da Vinci SP (single port) robotic-assisted surgical system and the ion robotic bronchoscopy system. Additionally, Rosa launched the company's future forward group, identifying and developing new business opportunities.
Under Guthart's leadership, Intuitive has achieved significant milestones, with surgeons performing nearly 17 million da Vinci procedures and almost 90,000 surgeons being trained to use Intuitive's systems in the company's first three decades.
As Intuitive Surgical, Inc. enters its 30th year of developing robotic-assisted technology, the company aims to continue improving patient outcomes, enhancing patient and care team experience, increasing access to minimally invasive care, and lowering the total cost of treatment.
