Walmart Appoints John Furner as New CEO

Walmart Inc. has announced the appointment of John Furner as the new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective February 1, 2026. Furner, who has served as President and CEO of Walmart U.S. since 2019, will succeed Doug McMillon, who will retire on January 31, 2026, after more than a decade as CEO. With fiscal year 2025 revenue of $681 billion, Walmart employs approximately 2.1 million associates worldwide and operates more than 10,750 stores and numerous eCommerce websites in 19 countries.

Under McMillon's leadership, Walmart has witnessed sustained, robust financial performance, with investments in associates, digital and eCommerce capabilities, and supply chain modernization. During Furner's six-year leadership of the Walmart U.S. business, marked by digital acceleration and strong associate engagement, the company has been positioned for continued success. Furner, who began his career as an hourly associate in 1993, has held leadership roles across merchandising, operations, and sourcing.

McMillon will remain on the Board of Directors until the next annual shareholders’ meeting and will continue to serve as an advisor to Furner through FY2027. The company plans to announce Furner’s successor as CEO of Walmart U.S. before the end of FY2026.

The transition marks a new era for Walmart, as the company aims to continue its growth and transformation under Furner's leadership, focusing on innovation, AI-driven initiatives, and a commitment to serving customers, supporting associates, and strengthening communities. As a result of these announcements, the company's shares have moved -0.87% on the market, and are now trading at a price of $102.54.
