American Airlines has added Mary Dillon to its board of directors, expanding the company’s leadership with a veteran consumer executive who has run three major public companies.
Dillon, 64, previously served as president and CEO of Foot Locker from 2022 to 2025, CEO of Ulta Beauty from 2013 to 2021, and president and CEO of U.S. Cellular from 2010 to 2013. She also spent five years as chief marketing officer at McDonald’s, from 2005 to 2010, and earlier held senior roles at PepsiCo, including president of the Quaker Oats division.
Her board appointment gives American another director with broad retail and marketing experience. Dillon has served on KKR’s board since 2018 and has also held board seats at Foot Locker, Starbucks, Ulta Beauty, U.S. Cellular and Target.
At American, Dillon will join the Compensation Committee and the Corporate Governance and Public Responsibility Committee. The airline said the move brings in leadership experience across consumer-facing businesses as it continues through its centennial year.
American says it now operates more than 6,000 daily flights to more than 350 destinations in more than 60 countries. It serves more than 200 million customers annually and employs 130,000 aviation professionals.
