Flowers Foods said Terry Thomas, its chief growth officer, will step down and the role will be eliminated, ending a position created in 2023 to accelerate growth capabilities and build new competencies.
The company said the responsibilities Thomas had been overseeing are being folded into its existing structure. Mark Courtney, Flowers’ chief brand officer and a 43-year company veteran, will now report directly to CEO Ryals McMullian. Courtney has served in that role since 2020 and will take on retail customer sales, innovation, and revenue management in addition to brand strategy.
Flowers said the leadership shift comes alongside recent changes in operations under President and COO Heeth Varnedoe, including the appointment of David Roach as chief DSD operations officer and the creation of a division structure for geographic P&L execution.
The company said its 2025 sales were $5.3 billion. Its brand portfolio includes Nature’s Own, Dave’s Killer Bread, Canyon Bakehouse, Wonder, Tastykake, and Mrs. Freshley’s. As a result of these announcements, the company's shares have moved 0.97% on the market, and are now trading at a price of $8.36.
