Amazon Operates Over 1 Million Robots in Fulfillment Centers

Amazon said it has more than one million robots operating in fulfillment centers, up from an earlier phase that began with the 2012 Kiva acquisition and 14 years of robotics investment. Those robots are being used for stowing, picking, sorting and intra-facility transport.

On rural delivery, the company said it has committed more than $4 billion to expand its network. Average monthly Same-Day customers in rural areas nearly doubled in 2025 versus the prior year. When the expansion is finished, Amazon says it will be able to deliver more than 1 billion additional packages a year across more than 13,000 zip codes covering 1.2 million square miles.

For satellite broadband, Amazon said it has launched more than 200 satellites for Amazon Leo, which it called the third-largest low Earth orbit network operating today. The company said Leo’s performance will be about six to eight times better on uplink and two times better on downlink than current options, and that the service is scheduled to launch in mid-2026.

In delivery, Amazon said it has built more than 85 Same Day Fulfillment Centers across the U.S. These centers carry the company’s top 90,000 SKUs and have helped it deliver more than 500 million same-day units so far in 2026. Prime Air is now designed to scale to communities with 30 million customers by year-end, with a goal of delivering half a billion packages by the end of the decade.

Amazon Now, its ultra-fast delivery service, is live in India and the UAE. The company said it operates more than 360 micro-fulfillment centers in India, where Amazon Now orders are increasing 25% month over month and Prime members are tripling their shopping frequency after starting to use the service.

In grocery, Amazon said perishables sales have grown more than 40 times since they were added to Same-Day Delivery in early 2025. Perishables now make up nine of the top 10 most-ordered items where the service is available. The company said Same-Day fresh food delivery now reaches more than 2,300 towns and cities, and its grocery business topped $150 billion in gross sales in 2025, making Amazon the second-largest grocer in the U.S.

On AWS and AI, Amazon said AWS’s AI revenue run rate is more than $15 billion in Q1 2026, compared with a $58 million revenue run rate for AWS three years after its commercial launch. The company said ChatGPT reached 100 million users in two months and now has more than 900 million weekly active users, while OpenAI and Anthropic each have revenue run rates reportedly approaching $30 billion.
