SS Innovations Completes World's Longest Robotic Telesurgery

SS Innovations said it completed a robotic heart procedure across about 12,500 miles, roughly 20,000 kilometers, setting what it called the world’s longest-distance robotic telesurgery.

The company said the procedure was performed by its chief executive, Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, who operated from Guyana on a patient in India using the SSI Mantra surgical robotic system. The distance more than doubled the company’s previous record: a Strasbourg, France-to-Indore, India telesurgery at about 6,250 miles, or 10,000 kilometers.

The latest case was a left internal mammary artery takedown. SS Innovations said the robotic setup in Indore replicated Srivastava’s movements from Guyana with network latency of 290 to 300 milliseconds.

The company said the procedure brought its total number of cardiac telesurgeries to 22, and that the SSI Mantra remains the only surgical robotic system used for cardiac telesurgery globally.

More broadly, SS Innovations said 173 telesurgeries have now been performed worldwide using the SSI Mantra platform. The system has regulatory approval in 14 countries, including India, Guyana, Colombia, Kenya, Ecuador, Nepal, Guatemala, Oman, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Ukraine, Iraq and the United Arab Emirates.

In Guyana’s inaugural national robotic surgery program launch, the company said three robotic procedures were completed on the first day. Today the company's shares have moved -0.23% to a price of $4.30. For more information, read the company's full 8-K submission here.
