SS Innovations said it completed the world’s longest-distance robotic telesurgery, with a cardiac procedure carried out across about 12,500 miles, or 20,000 kilometers, of fiber network distance between Guyana and India.
The company said the new record more than doubled its prior longest telesurgery distance. The previous mark, also performed using the SSI Mantra system, connected Strasbourg, France to Indore, India over about 6,250 miles, or 10,000 kilometers.
Chief Executive Officer and cardiac surgeon Dr. Sudhir Srivastava remotely performed a left internal mammary artery takedown from Guyana using the SSI MantraSana tele-surgeon console, while the patient-side robotic setup was located in Indore, India. The company said the system operated with network latency of 290 to 300 milliseconds during the procedure.
The latest surgery brings the total number of cardiac telesurgeries performed with SSI Mantra to 22. SS Innovations said the SSI Mantra is the only surgical robotic system globally that has been used for cardiac telesurgery.
More broadly, the company said 173 telesurgeries have now been completed worldwide using the SSI Mantra platform.
In Guyana, three robotic procedures were completed on the inaugural day of the national robotic surgery program. SS Innovations said it received regulatory approval for the SSI Mantra from Guyana’s government analyst-food and drug department in May 2026.
The system now has regulatory approval in 14 countries: Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Kenya, Nepal, Oman, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Ukraine and the United Arab Emirates.
