Andersons Appoints Marathon Exec to Board

The Andersons, Inc. has added David R. Heppner to its board of directors, effective June 18, 2026.

Heppner is chief strategy officer and senior vice president of business development at Marathon Petroleum Corp. and also serves as senior vice president at MPLX GP LLC. He has worked at Marathon since 1988, giving him nearly four decades of experience across engineering, operations, project management, commercial leadership, strategy and business development.

His career includes senior roles at Speedway, where he served as vice president of operations and later as senior vice president of engineering services and corporate support. He was then named vice president of commercial and business development, followed by senior vice president of strategy and business development in 2021, before taking his current role in 2024.

The company said the appointment is intended to support its focus on disciplined growth and portfolio optimization. Chairman Pat Bowe said Heppner’s background aligns with the company’s efforts to strengthen its core businesses and deliver long-term value.

Heppner also serves on the board of trustees at Ohio Northern University. His prior community and industry involvement includes leadership roles with Habitat for Humanity, the United Way, Boy Scouts of America and the March of Dimes, along with board service at Dayton Children’s Hospital Foundation and other organizations.
