Tango Therapeutics Appoints Veteran Oncology Executive

Tango Therapeutics appointed Robert Azelby to its board of directors on June 22, adding a veteran oncology commercial executive as the company pushes vopimetostat toward potential late-stage development.

Azelby brings more than 30 years of biopharmaceutical experience. He previously served as chief executive officer of Eliem Therapeutics from October 2020 to February 2023, chief executive officer of Alder Biopharmaceuticals from June 2018 until its acquisition by H. Lundbeck in 2019, and executive vice president and chief commercial officer of Juno Therapeutics from November 2015 until its acquisition by Celgene in 2018.

Earlier, he spent 15 years at Amgen, finishing as vice president and general manager of oncology, where he oversaw the commercial performance of Amgen’s $6 billion oncology portfolio.

He currently sits on the boards of ADC Therapeutics, Autolus Therapeutics and Cardinal Health. He has also served on the boards of Terns Pharmaceuticals, Eliem Therapeutics, Alder Biopharmaceuticals, Chinook Therapeutics, Immunomedics, Clovis Oncology and Cascadian Therapeutics.

Tango said the appointment comes as it advances vopimetostat, its investigational PRMT5 inhibitor, toward possible late-stage development for patients with pancreatic cancer. The company said vopimetostat is being evaluated in monotherapy and combination studies and is designed to work selectively in cancer cells with MTAP deletion.

Tango said MTAP deletions occur in 10% to 15% of all human cancers, including about 40% of pancreatic cancer and 15% of lung cancer. As a result of these announcements, the company's shares have moved 1.34% on the market, and are now trading at a price of $28.77.
