Spire Global Appoints Eric Mellinger as Chief Commercial Officer

Spire Global has named Eric “Mell” Mellinger as chief commercial officer, effective Aug. 3, 2026, putting him in charge of the company’s global commercial organization, including go-to-market strategy, business development, sales, strategic partnerships and customer growth.

Mellinger joins from Mantech International, where he led business development and growth for the defense and space sector. Spire highlighted several figures from his prior role: he oversaw an annual business pipeline of more than $4 billion, helped drive more than $2.5 billion in contract awards and contributed to double-digit year-over-year revenue growth. He also worked with partners including Anduril, AWS, Google, IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Palantir and SpaceX.

His background also includes work on the House Armed Services Committee as defense acquisition reform staff lead, followed by 30 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he retired as a colonel. Spire said he will be based at its Vienna, Virginia headquarters.

Chief Executive Theresa Condor said the hire is aimed at scaling Spire’s commercial business and expanding its reach across government and commercial markets.
