Spire Global has named Eric “Mell” Mellinger chief commercial officer, effective Aug. 3, 2026, putting a growth executive in charge of the company’s global commercial organization as it looks to expand across government and commercial markets.
Mellinger joins Spire from Mantech International, where he led business development and growth for the defense and space sector. In that role, he helped build an annual business pipeline of more than $4 billion across U.S. defense markets and contributed to more than $2.5 billion in contract awards. The company said his team produced double-digit year-over-year revenue growth.
At Mantech, Mellinger also worked on partnerships with Anduril, AWS, Google, IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Palantir and SpaceX, and helped expand support for U.S. government missions across the Indo-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and Central and South America.
Before Mantech, he served as defense acquisition reform staff lead for the House Armed Services Committee. He also spent 30 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring as a colonel after senior leadership roles in multiple regions.
