BD President Dr. Michael Garrison to Retire

BD said Dr. Michael Garrison will retire Oct. 2 after more than 20 years with the company, ending a run that included stints as executive vice president and president of the medical essentials and biopharma systems segments, as well as earlier leadership roles over BD’s medical segment, medication management solutions and surgery businesses.

Garrison will stay in his role through the end of the fiscal year while BD conducts a search for a new president of medical essentials.

The move also changes the reporting structure for biopharma systems: the unit will now report directly to CEO Tom Polen. BD said the shift is meant to streamline the operating model and reflects the segment’s importance as a growth driver.

BD said Garrison joined the company in 2005 after holding roles in R&D and marketing in the medtech industry. Polen said Garrison helped guide the company through periods of transformation and built teams and leaders across the business.
