First Hawaiian, Inc. Reports Q2 Net Income Jump

First Hawaiian, Inc. reported second-quarter 2026 net income of $73.4 million, or $0.60 per diluted share, up from the prior quarter as the bank posted higher lending and fee income and a better net interest margin.

Gross loans and leases rose to $14.6 billion at June 30, 2026, an increase of $136.5 million from $14.4 billion at March 31. Total deposits fell to $20.2 billion from $20.8 billion, a decline of $623.2 million.

Net interest income increased to $171.0 million from $167.5 million in the first quarter, while net interest margin widened 6 basis points to 3.25% from 3.19%.

Noninterest income climbed to $60.3 million from $52.8 million, an increase of $7.5 million. Noninterest expense rose to $130.4 million from $127.9 million, up $2.6 million. The efficiency ratio improved to 56.2% from 57.8%.

The company recorded a $5.6 million provision for credit losses, compared with $5.0 million in the prior quarter.

On the balance sheet, total assets declined to $23.6 billion from $24.3 billion. The allowance for credit losses edged down to $168.1 million, or 1.15% of total loans and leases, from $169.3 million, or 1.17%. The reserve for unfunded commitments increased to $37.7 million from $34.9 million.

Net charge-offs improved to $4.1 million, or 0.11% of average loans and leases on an annualized basis, from $4.9 million, or 0.14%. Non-performing assets were essentially flat at $39.5 million, compared with $39.7 million in the previous quarter.

Capital ratios improved in the quarter. The tier 1 leverage ratio rose to 9.46% from 9.21%, common equity tier 1 increased to 13.27% from 13.12%, and total capital climbed to 14.52% from 14.37%.

The board declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.26 per share, unchanged from the announced payout level in the release. As a result of these announcements, the company's shares have moved -0.07% on the market, and are now trading at a price of $28.6308.
