Vericel Corp Reports 25.9% Revenue Growth

Vericel Corp recently released its latest 10-Q report. Vericel is a commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on cellular therapies and specialty biologic products for sports medicine and severe burn care in North America. Its marketed products are MACI for knee cartilage repair, Epicel for severe burns, and NexoBrid for eschar removal in burn patients; the company was formerly known as Aastrom Biosciences and is headquartered in Burlington, Massachusetts.

For the three months ended June 30, 2026, Vericel reported revenue of $77.5 million, up 22.5% from $63.2 million a year earlier. For the first six months, revenue rose 25.9% to $145.9 million from $115.8 million. MACI remained the largest product line, generating $65.5 million in the quarter and $121.9 million in the first half, both up 22.2% from the prior-year period.

Epicel revenue increased to $10.4 million in the quarter from $8.6 million, a gain of 20.8%, and climbed 56.8% in the first half to $21.3 million from $13.6 million. NexoBrid contributed $1.5 million in the quarter, up 32.5%, and $2.7 million in the first six months, up 7.3%.

Cost of product sales rose to $21.1 million in the quarter from $16.6 million, while gross profit increased to $56.4 million from $46.6 million. For the six-month period, gross profit was $105.7 million, compared with $82.9 million a year earlier.

Research and development expense increased to $7.5 million in the quarter from $6.7 million, and selling, general and administrative expense rose to $48.5 million from $41.9 million. Total operating expenses were $56.0 million, up from $48.6 million.

Vericel posted operating income of $434,000 for the quarter, compared with an operating loss of $2.0 million a year earlier. For the first half, the operating loss narrowed to $7.6 million from $14.8 million. Net income was $2.2 million in the quarter, versus a net loss of $553,000 in the prior-year quarter, while the six-month net loss improved to $4.1 million from $11.8 million.

In the business description, Vericel said MACI is sold for symptomatic full-thickness cartilage defects of the knee, Epicel is used for deep-dermal or full-thickness burns covering at least 30% of total body surface area, and NexoBrid is used for eschar removal in deep partial-thickness and/or full-thickness thermal burns. The company also said MACI Arthro became commercially available in the U.S. in the third quarter of 2024 after FDA approval expanded the label to include arthroscopic delivery, and that it is pursuing a talus indication through the MASCOT study.
