Ellington Financial has recently released its latest Form 10-Q. The company, through Ellington Financial Operating Partnership LLC, acquires and manages mortgage-related, consumer-related, corporate-related, and other financial assets, with operations organized into two reportable segments: Investment Portfolio and Longbridge. It is headquartered in Old Greenwich, Connecticut, was incorporated in 2007, and operates as a REIT that aims to distribute at least 90% of its taxable income to shareholders.
In Item 2, Management’s Discussion and Analysis, Ellington said all of its business activities run through the Operating Partnership, in which it held an approximately 98.9% ownership interest as of June 30, 2026. The remaining 1.1% was held by an affiliate of its manager, current and former directors, and certain current and former employees and related parties, and is reflected as a non-controlling interest in the financial statements. The company is externally managed by Ellington Financial Management LLC, an affiliate of Ellington Management Group, and it said its investment approach is opportunistic rather than tied to a fixed yield target.
Ellington’s Investment Portfolio Segment includes residential and commercial mortgage loans, Agency RMBS, non-Agency RMBS, CMBS, consumer loans and related ABS, Forward MSR-related investments, CLOs, derivatives, debt and equity stakes in loan origination companies, and other strategic investments. Its Longbridge Segment focuses on reverse mortgage loans, including home equity conversion mortgage loans insured by the FHA and proprietary reverse mortgage loans, along with related financial assets, financing, hedging, and allocated expenses. The company said it uses flexibility across asset classes and hedges credit, interest rate, yield spread, and foreign currency risks when it deems appropriate, while sometimes leaving some or all of those exposures unhedged. The market has reacted to these announcements by moving the company's shares -1.54% to a price of $13.391. Check out the company's full 10-Q submission here.
