Rigetti Computing reorganizes leadership for quantum processor development and customer deployment

Rigetti Computing said it is reorganizing its leadership to separate customer deployments from quantum processor development, as demand rises for its on-premises systems ranging from 9 qubits to 108 qubits.

David Rivas, who has been Rigetti’s chief technology officer since February 2023, has been named chief operating officer in the newly created role. He will oversee fabrication operations, systems delivery, software engineering, applications, business development, government programs, supply chain and facilities.

Andrew Bestwick, who had been senior vice president of quantum systems, has been promoted to chief technology officer. He will lead quantum processor development, chip fabrication development and hardware engineering.

The company said the move is aimed at scaling deployment of customer systems and sharpening focus on its technology roadmap, including a target of 99.5% median two-qubit gate fidelity on Cepheus-1-108Q.

Rigetti said its on-premises deployments now span from 9-qubit Novera systems to 108-qubit Cepheus-class systems. The company also said its Cepheus 36-qubit to 108-qubit systems use its chiplet-based architecture and include its control electronics.

The company highlighted several performance and product figures tied to its business: Gate speeds of 50-70 nanoseconds Those speeds are about 10,000 times faster than trapped-ion systems They are about 100 times faster than neutral-atom systems Cepheus-1-108Q is built from twelve 9-qubit chiplets * Rigetti said it deployed the industry’s largest multi-chip quantum computer in 2026 with that system

Rivas joined Rigetti in March 2019 as senior vice president of systems and services before becoming CTO in February 2023. Bestwick joined in August 2015 and was appointed senior vice president, quantum systems in January 2024. Today the company's shares have moved -3.47% to a price of $16.41.
