United Bankshares Maintains Dividend, Announces Stock Repurchase Program

United Bankshares declared a third-quarter dividend of $0.38 per share, unchanged from the company’s regular quarterly payout structure, and said the dividend will total about $51.8 million across 136.2 million shares. The dividend is payable Oct. 1, 2026, to shareholders of record as of Sept. 11, 2026.

The company also approved a new stock repurchase program authorizing purchases of up to 6.8 million shares, or about 5% of its issued and outstanding common stock. That new plan replaces the repurchase authorization approved in November 2025.

The company said 2025 marked its 52nd consecutive year of dividend increases, extending a long-running record among major U.S. banking companies.

United Bankshares reported consolidated assets of about $34 billion as of June 30, 2026. Its banking subsidiary operates more than 240 offices across Washington, D.C., Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
