Bandwidth Inc. appoints Emily Harlan as General Counsel

Bandwidth Inc. promoted Emily Harlan to general counsel and secretary, effective Sept. 1, 2026, replacing Brandon Asbill, who is retiring after more than five years in the role.

Harlan has been with Bandwidth since December 2018, when she joined as deputy general counsel. Since then, her responsibilities expanded to include dispute resolution and litigation, ethics and compliance, and employment law for the company’s global workforce. She was elevated again in July 2024 to senior vice president and deputy general counsel before taking the top legal post this month.

Asbill stepped down as general counsel and corporate secretary on Aug. 31, 2026, and will remain with the company as general counsel emeritus and assistant secretary until his retirement on Dec. 31, 2026. Bandwidth said Asbill helped guide the company through its growth into a global business and built out the legal function to support that expansion.

The leadership change comes eight years after Harlan first joined the company and more than five years after Asbill became general counsel, marking a handoff from a long-serving legal chief to an internal successor with nearly a decade of Bandwidth experience. The market has reacted to these announcements by moving the company's shares -4.04% to a price of $45.19. For the full picture, make sure to review Bandwidth's 8-K report.
