Brookfield Asset Management has secured a long-term investment mandate from the Nuclear Liabilities Fund, starting with an initial $1 billion commitment, or about £750 million.
The portfolio will be spread across Brookfield’s infrastructure, energy, private equity, real estate and private credit strategies. The mandate is structured to keep capital invested over time, with proceeds expected to be reinvested rather than routinely distributed.
The Nuclear Liabilities Fund said the assignment is tied to the future decommissioning costs of eight UK nuclear power stations. The fund’s objective is to ensure enough assets are available to meet those costs without relying unnecessarily on taxpayers.
Brookfield said the mandate will be run through its Investment Solutions Group. The firm described the portfolio as multi-asset and global, with investments expected to include fund commitments, direct investments and co-investments.
The size of the commitment gives Brookfield an immediate $1 billion base to deploy, and the structure is designed for a multi-decade horizon rather than short-term payouts. Today the company's shares have moved -0.39% to a price of $50.405. For the full picture, make sure to review Brookfield Asset Management's 8-K report.
