Chatham Lodging Trust added Liam Brown to its board of trustees, effective immediately, giving the hotel REIT a director with 37 years of Marriott experience and direct oversight of operations spanning more than 6,000 hotels and about 160,000 associates.
Brown retired from Marriott in June 2026 after serving as group president, United States and Canada from January 2021. Before that, he was president and managing director of Europe from 2018 to 2019 and group president of Europe, Middle East & Africa in 2020. He joined Marriott in 1989 and spent six years, from 2012 to 2018, as president for franchising, owner services and managed by Marriott select brands in North America.
Chatham’s chairman and chief executive officer, Jeffrey H. Fisher, said he has worked with Brown for 30 years and pointed to Brown’s background in operations and franchisor-franchisee relationships as a way to support shareholder value, operating results and capital allocation decisions.
Brown already serves on the board of EPR Properties, where he chairs the Compensation & Human Capital Committee and sits on the Nominating/Company Governance Committee. He also serves on the Executive Committee of the American Hotel and Lodging Association.
Chatham, which invests in upscale extended-stay and premium-branded select-service hotels, did not announce any financial figures with the appointment.
