Trilogy Metals said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has published a notice of intent to prepare an environmental impact statement for its Arctic project in northwestern Alaska, formally starting the federal NEPA review and public scoping process.
The company said the milestone was reached on schedule under the permitting timetable published in July 2026. The current schedule calls for a draft environmental impact statement in October 2027 and a record of decision in September 2028, with overall completion targeted for November 2028.
Trilogy said the project is being advanced by Ambler Metals, its 50/50 joint venture with South32. The Army Corps received the Clean Water Act Section 404 permit application on April 20, 2026, and is serving as lead federal agency for the review.
The company said the coordinated federal and state review is expected to take 29 months, which it described as ahead of the historical baseline for comparable federal reviews.
Trilogy’s president and chief executive, Tony Giardini, said the notice of intent keeps the project on track toward the September 2028 decision date. Ron Rimpleman, president of Ambler Metals, said the public process will continue to focus on environmental standards and the project’s potential benefits for northwest Alaska communities. Following these announcements, the company's shares moved 2.3%, and are now trading at a price of $3.335. If you want to know more, read the company's complete 8-K report here.
