The Hartford Appoints A. Morris Tooker as Next CEO

The Hartford named company president A. Morris “Mo” Tooker as its next chief executive, effective March 1, 2027, replacing Christopher Swift, who will become executive chair on that date.

Tooker will join the board effective Oct. 1, 2026. He has been with the company since 2015, when he joined as chief underwriting officer, and has spent the past 11 years in a series of leadership roles. In his current role as president, he has overseen business performance, strategy and enterprise-wide execution.

The company highlighted several operating changes during Tooker’s tenure, saying he expanded underwriting capabilities, widened risk appetite and grew risk-mitigation services across the enterprise. It also said he pushed a more integrated go-to-market approach across business units.

Swift’s upcoming move caps nearly 13 years as chief executive and more than 12 years as chairman. The company said that during his time as CEO and CFO, he helped transform The Hartford into a more focused and disciplined insurer, strengthened its financial profile, more than tripled net income ROE and drove a share-price increase of more than eightfold.

Under Swift, The Hartford also expanded its capabilities through investment in technology and by broadening product offerings and its geographic footprint.

As executive chair, Swift will lead the board, help oversee corporate strategy and advise the new CEO. He plans to step down from that role in the second half of 2027. Today the company's shares have moved -0.15% to a price of $125.85. Check out the company's full 8-K submission here.
