Ovintiv Announces Share Buyback Program Renewal

Ovintiv renewed its annual share buyback program and set a new repurchase target of up to 26,973,037 common shares over the 12 months from Oct. 5, 2026, through Oct. 4, 2027.

The new authorization equals 10% of the company’s public float as of Sept. 21, 2026. Ovintiv said the repurchases will be made on the TSX, NYSE, other designated exchanges and alternative trading systems in Canada and the U.S.

The company also renewed its automatic share purchase plan, which allows it to keep buying shares during blackout periods.

Under its current buyback program, Ovintiv had repurchased 13,925,579 shares as of Sept. 30, 2026, out of the 22,287,709 shares authorized under that plan. That means 8,362,130 shares remained available under the existing authorization.

In the third quarter of 2026 alone, Ovintiv bought 6,332,551 shares at a weighted average price of $60.90 each. For all purchases under the current program through Sept. 30, 2026, the weighted average price was $58.49 per share.

The company said the average daily trading volume on the TSX over the six months ended Aug. 31, 2026, was 216,540 shares, which limits daily TSX purchases to 54,135 shares, excluding block purchase exceptions. Today the company's shares have moved -1.72% to a price of $57.82. If you want to know more, read the company's complete 8-K report here.
