Boston Scientific Revamps Structure for Growth

Boston Scientific is reshaping its top operating structure as it prepares for a larger, more segmented business profile in 2027.

The company said Joseph M. Fitzgerald will become executive vice president and chief operating officer on Jan. 1, 2027. In that role, he will oversee global operations, business units and regions. Fitzgerald currently serves as executive vice president and group president, cardiovascular.

At the same time, Boston Scientific will move to three reportable segments beginning Jan. 1: interventional therapies, rhythm solutions and medsurg.

The new structure assigns leadership as follows: Lance Bates will lead interventional therapies, which will include the Penumbra business after the acquisition closes. Nick Spadea-Anello will lead rhythm solutions. * Stephen Morse will lead medsurg and Asia Pacific.

The company said the reorganization is intended to speed decision-making and improve capital allocation across the portfolio. It also said the move reflects the “scale and breadth” of the business as it expands.

Boston Scientific did not provide financial figures in the announcement, but the operating changes mark a significant shift in how the company will be managed and reported starting in 2027. As a result of these announcements, the company's shares have moved -0.49% on the market, and are now trading at a price of $42.19. Check out the company's full 8-K submission here.
