Main Street Capital's Q3 Net Income & NAV Increase

Main Street Capital said its third-quarter 2026 net investment income came in at $0.87 to $0.91 per share, with distributable net investment income of $0.94 to $0.98 per share and distributable net investment income before taxes of $0.96 to $1.00 per share.

The company estimated net asset value at September 30 at $34.18 to $34.26 per share, up $0.26 to $0.34 from $33.92 at June 30, a gain of 0.8% to 1.0%. The increase came after a $0.30 per-share supplemental dividend paid in September. Main Street said the higher NAV was driven mainly by net fair value appreciation in its investment portfolio, including realized and unrealized gains, plus the accretive effect of equity issuances. Those gains were partly offset by dividends paid in excess of net investment income and by net tax provision.

The company said the portfolio appreciation was led by its lower middle market investments, private loan investments and other portfolio holdings, while middle market investments and its wholly owned external investment manager showed fair value depreciation.

Main Street estimated annualized return on equity at more than 14% for the quarter.

Non-accrual investments were 0.9% of the total portfolio at fair value and 3.5% at cost as of September 30.

During the quarter, Main Street Mezzanine Fund, an SBIC subsidiary, won approval to raise its SBIC debenture borrowing capacity by $75 million to $250 million. Combined with Main Street Capital III, the company said it now has access to $425 million of the $475 million regulatory maximum available to affiliated SBIC funds.

In portfolio activity, Main Street made $61.5 million of total lower middle market investments, which after repayments and other adjustments resulted in a $19.4 million decline in the portfolio’s total cost basis. In private loan investments, it deployed $162.0 million, which after repayments and other adjustments produced a $1.8 million decline in total cost basis.

Main Street said it will report full third-quarter results on November 5 and hold a conference call on November 6 at 10:00 a.m. Eastern time. Today the company's shares have moved -0.5% to a price of $53.50. For more information, read the company's full 8-K submission here.
