Marvel and Webtoon Launch New Comics App

Webtoon Entertainment and Marvel will launch the new Marvel Comics app on November 16, giving readers access to more than 35,000 digital comics from Marvel, Star Wars and 20th Century Studios.

The app will debut with two subscription tiers. The base plan is priced at $9.99 a month or $69.99 a year and includes the full digital library, with new issues arriving three months after print release. The higher tier, called Ultimate, costs $12.49 a month or $99.99 a year and shortens that window to one month after print release.

For early adopters, Marvel is offering a founding-member annual price of $59.99 for the first year of Ultimate, down from the regular $99.99 annual rate. The offer is available now for pre-registration, and the subscription begins after the service launches.

The app is being previewed at New York Comic Con from October 8 to 11 at booth #2435. Marvel said the first 2,000 fans who claim the founding-member offer at the event will receive a limited-edition Marvel Comics print ID card.

The app will include personalized recommendations, pull-list features for new issues, character and creator pages, and support for both page-based and vertical-scroll reading formats. The market has reacted to these announcements by moving the company's shares -3.31% to a price of $10.50. If you want to know more, read the company's complete 8-K report here.
