DTE Energy Names Joi Harris as New CEO

DTE Energy, a Detroit-based diversified energy company, has announced a significant leadership transition. Joi Harris, currently the President and Chief Operating Officer, will assume the role of President and Chief Executive Officer on September 8, 2025, succeeding Jerry Norcia, the current Chairman and CEO, who will transition to serve as Executive Chairman of the Board.

Harris, who has been with DTE for 34 years, has a track record of delivering measurable results for customers, modernizing critical infrastructure, and leading high-performing teams. Notably, under her leadership, DTE’s electric grid saw a year-over-year 70% improvement in electric reliability in 2024.

On the other hand, Norcia, who joined DTE in 2002, has been instrumental in shaping a culture grounded in performance, integrity, and impact. His efforts to expand support for low-income customers through programs like the Low-Income Self-Sufficiency Program have set a national standard and have led to the passage of the Michigan Energy Assistance Program (MEAP) earlier this year, which is expected to double the number of Michiganders receiving energy assistance over the next five years.

As part of DTE Energy's commitment to carbon reduction goals and serving its community, the company is involved in volunteerism, education, employment initiatives, philanthropy, emission reductions, and economic progress.

The transition, which culminates a multi-year succession plan, has been unanimously supported by the DTE Energy Board of Directors, illustrating their confidence in Harris's ability to lead the company with focus, clarity, and vision.

Norcia will continue to serve as an advisor to Harris in his role as Executive Chairman, and he will also maintain his leadership roles in Michigan communities by serving on the boards of Henry Ford Health, Business Leaders for Michigan, and the Detroit Regional Partnership.

This transition comes at a pivotal moment for DTE Energy and the industry as a whole, and Harris has expressed her commitment to executing the company's strategy with urgency, focusing on modernizing infrastructure, delivering for customers, and building the energy systems for future generations. The market has reacted to these announcements by moving the company's shares 1.3% to a price of $134.04. For the full picture, make sure to review DTE ENERGY CO's 8-K report.
