Riot Platforms Acquires 200 Acres for Data Center Expansion

Riot Platforms, Inc. has made significant strides in its data center business, with the acquisition of 200 acres of land at its Rockdale site for $96.0 million. This acquisition was funded entirely by the sale of approximately 1,080 Bitcoin from Riot’s balance sheet.

The company has also entered into a data center lease and services agreement with Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) at the Rockdale site. This lease includes an initial deployment of 25 MW of critical IT load capacity, with a potential for additional expansion up to a total of 200 MW. The initial deployment will leverage Riot’s existing infrastructure at the Rockdale site, with delivery to AMD expected in two phases: the first in January 2026 and final completion in May 2026.

The data center lease is expected to generate approximately $311.0 million in contract revenue over its initial 10-year term, with three five-year extension options that could bring the total expected contract revenue to approximately $1.0 billion. If AMD exercises its expansion option and right of first refusal, its total leased capacity at the Rockdale site would reach 200 MW.

Riot now owns and manages over 1,100 acres and 1.7 GW of power capacity across its two Texas facilities, positioning the company as a leading data center developer in the “Texas triangle” region.

This marks a significant milestone for Riot Platforms, Inc., as it firmly establishes itself in the data center business, less than twelve months since the launch of its formal process to evaluate its assets for AI/HPC use. The company’s vision to become the world’s most trusted platform for powering and building digital infrastructure seems to be well underway. Today the company's shares have moved 16.11% to a price of $19.24. For more information, read the company's full 8-K submission here.
