3M has appointed Jennifer W. Rumsey to its board of directors, effective June 5, 2026, and named her to the Science, Technology and Sustainability Committee.
Rumsey is the chair and chief executive officer of Cummins, a role she has held since August 2023 as chair and since August 2022 as CEO. Before that, she was Cummins’ president and chief operating officer, led its Components business, and served as chief technical officer.
The board move adds a leader with experience running a global industrial company. 3M chairman and chief executive William M. Brown said Rumsey brings experience driving growth across global industrial markets through innovation and technology.
Rumsey’s background includes a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
