CME Group Inc. Revenue Rises in Latest 10-Q Report

CME Group Inc. has recently released its latest 10-Q report. CME Group, through its subsidiaries, operates contract markets for futures and options on futures across global markets, with products tied to interest rates, equity indexes, foreign exchange, agriculture, energy, metals, fixed income, and foreign currency trading. It also provides clearing, settlement, and guarantee services for futures, options, and cleared swaps, along with real-time and historical market data services for a broad customer base that includes traders, institutions, corporations, governments, and central banks.

In Item 2, Management’s Discussion and Analysis, CME Group said total revenue rose to $1.706 billion in the quarter ended June 30, 2026, from $1.692 billion a year earlier, while six-month revenue increased to $3.586 billion from $3.334 billion. Total expenses climbed to $599.1 million in the quarter from $562.7 million, and to $1.170 billion for the first half from $1.097 billion, leaving operating margin at 64.9% for the quarter and 67.4% for the six months, compared with 66.7% and 67.1%, respectively, a year earlier. Net income was $1.042 billion in the quarter, up from $1.025 billion, and $2.196 billion for the first six months, up from $1.981 billion; diluted earnings per share were $2.88 and $6.06, compared with $2.81 and $5.43.

Clearing and transaction fees generated $1.353 billion in the quarter, down 3% from $1.388 billion, but increased 6% to $2.895 billion for the six months from $2.725 billion. Total contract volume was 1.850 billion round turns in the quarter, down 1%, and 4.060 billion for the six months, up 10%. The average rate per contract fell to $0.678 from $0.690 in the quarter and to $0.664 from $0.688 in the six months.

Average daily volume by product line showed interest rates at 14.532 million in the quarter, down 6%, and equity indexes at 8.634 million, up 13%. Foreign exchange volume fell 10% to 989,000, energy dropped 13% to 2.667 million, agricultural commodities rose 6% to 2.080 million, and metals were essentially flat at 941,000. Electronic trading accounted for 94% of total volume in the quarter, up from 93%.

Within interest rates, SOFR futures and options declined in the quarter, with futures expiring within two years at 3.009 million and options at 1.212 million, while the 10-year Treasury complex rose to 3.532 million. In equity indexes, E-mini Nasdaq 100 futures and options jumped 32% to 3.191 million, while Bitcoin futures and options increased 35% to 116,000 and Ether futures and options fell 12% to 89,000. In foreign exchange, the euro and Japanese yen both fell 13% in the quarter. In energy, WTI crude oil volume slipped 3% to 1.465 million, natural gas fell 24% to 658,000, and Brent crude oil declined 20% to 186,000. In agriculture, corn rose 14% to 673,000 and wheat climbed 22% to 326,000. In metals, gold eased 4% to 639,000, while silver rose 43% to 167,000.

Market data and information services revenue increased to $238.1 million in the quarter from $198.1 million, and to $462.2 million in the six months from $392.6 million. Other revenue rose to $115.6 million in the quarter from $105.9 million and to $229.0 million for the first half from $216.4 million.

Cash flows from operating activities were $2.207 billion for the six months, up from $2.175 billion. Non-operating income rose to $220.6 million in the quarter from $201.0 million and to $421.8 million for the six months from $337.8 million. The effective tax rate declined to 21.5% in the quarter from 22.9% and to 22.6% for the six months from 23.1%.

CME also said one individual clearing firm represented at least 10% of clearing and transaction fees in the first six months of 2026, and that two large market data resellers accounted for about 25% of market data and information services revenue in that period.
